"Imagine if a third of the kids at your local primary school were AIDS orphans. That's a reality in Africa where the parents of 13 million children have been killed by AIDS."

Located in KwaMashu Township, South Africa, the Zamimpilo Orphanage is home to 86 children who have been orphaned by the rampant AIDS epidemic in that area. Begun as a training facility for home-based AIDS care workers, the staff of amazing volunteers care for all the children in one building where they eat, sleep, play, and have school classes for the youngest children. The children cannot be tested for HIV for fear of being stigmatized, but many are most likely HIV-positive.

Through the efforts of the Josh Groban Foundation and individual fan contributions, great improvements are being made in the lives of these wonderful children. The JGF has given its support in the purchase of food, new kitchen appliances and equipment, cleaning supplies, art and music materials, sleeping mats, baby items, construction of shower facilities and outdoor play equipment. Through the Zamimpilo Kids Project's "Operation Undercover," individual fans from all over the world have created and donated hundreds of blankets for the children which were delivered by Zamimpilo Kids volunteers living in South Africa.

Although not funded through GFA, we salute the work of the Zamimpilo Kids project, and are privileged to work in partnership with them on the 2006 Blanket Drive, and on potential future projects to benefit these special children.
