Questions:
Q- What is the difference
between GFC (Grobanites for Charity) and JGF (The Josh Groban Foundation)?
Both GFC and JGF are 501(c)(3)
tax exempt non-profit organizations which support charitable organizations
that help children in need. GFC's primary goal is to raise money
and lead projects for JGF and its selected charities.
Q- What
are the mission statements of JGF and GFC?
The mission of JGF is to help children in need around the world
through contributions to the arts, education and healthcare.
The mission of GFC is to work together with Josh Groban's fans to
make a difference in the lives of children everywhere.
Q- Who runs GFC?
GFC is run by a core team of seven people. These volunteers
are responsible for managing all aspects of the GFC organization,
including processing payments, answering emails, leading on-line
auctions, mailing out auction items, coordinating M&G fundraisers,
developing and ordering merchandise, sending out newsletters,
running the GFC website, and issuing tax receipts.
The GFC Board of Directors consists of the GFC Core Team members
and Lindy Groban. All decisions are made by the GFC Core Team
and Lindy Groban (when appropriate) .
GFC would not be successful without the many generous volunteers
who donate their time, energy and money to help with mailing
out merchandise and running the GFC projects. You'll find them
listed on our About Us page here: About
Us and on our thank you page listed here: A
Special Thank You
Q- What is the history of GFC and how were the team members selected?
The GFC Team started with three people (Val, Julie and Meg)
in 2002 after Julie initiated the first fan fundraising project
on Josh's website, which was to raise money for the David Foster
Foundation (DFF) in honor of Josh's 21st birthday. Through on-line
auctions and donations at Meet and Greets, over $75,000 was
raised for the David Foster Foundation in 2002 and 2003.
Once Josh established his own Charitable Trust (and then Foundation)
in 2004, the group changed its focus to The Josh Groban Foundation
and renamed itself "Grobanites for Charity." GFC incorporated
and established 501(c)(3) non-profit status in 2005 .
Additional team members were selected by the GFC team as the
organization expanded, based on the skills and roles required
at the time. The team membership will continue to evolve as
needed.
Q- Who approves the GFC merchandise and projects?
The GFC Board of Directors reviews all proposed merchandise and
project ideas. All projects must be in line with the GFC and JGF
missions and all merchandise must be reviewed and approved by Lindy
Groban.
Q- Who selects the charities that GFC and JGF donate towards?
Josh and his family determine the charities to which JGF donates.
GFC donates to both JGF and the charities it supports.
Q- How can I suggest a charity for GFC or JGF to donate towards?
You can write to gfc@grobanitesforcharity.org
and we will pass your idea on to JGF. In general, JGF focuses on
children's charities which are well run and underfunded. JGF has
already identified which charities it wishes to focus on at the
current time, so please do not be discouraged if your charity is
not selected.
Q- What is the relationship between GFC and GFA (Grobanites for Africa)?
GFA is a part of GFC but focuses specifically on Africa projects.
GFA has its own team and its own website at www.grobanitesforaf
rica.org . All GFA donations are processed through GFC. GFC sends
these donations to The Josh Groban Foundation to be specifically
designated for Africa projects. Sandi Campbell represents GFA on
the GFC Team.
Q- Who oversees the finances for GFC and where can I find this information?
Julie Clarke, the GFC CFO and Treasurer, oversees all finances for
GFC. All financial details are shared with fundraiser coordinators
and all fundraiser totals are posted on the GFC website. All GFC
financial records are openly shared with JGF and all GFC tax returns
will be available to the public as required by the IRS .
Q- How much of the money raised by GFC goes to the charities? What
costs are taken out?
One hundred percent of the money raised by GFC goes to JGF (or its
selected charities), except for the base costs of the GFC merchandise
and the on-line transaction fees, which we cannot control. We do
not pay any salaries, and all the work is done by volunteers.
There are many administrative costs incurred to run a charitable
organization like GFC. The GFC team members donate many of these
costs and the rest are donated by generous charity supporters which
you can find on our About Us page here: About
Us
Q- Where
does my donation go?
If you make a general donation,
your donation will go toward a variety of charities supported
by The Josh Groban Foundation. If you make a specific donation
(from the choices provided on our donation page), your donation
will go towards the charity you specify.
Q- I
have a great idea for The Josh Groban Foundation! How do I submit
it?
E-mail us at GFC@Grobanitesforcharity.org
with your idea, and the GFC Team will review it. If your idea
is for a new project, we may need to have an organized, detailed
plan in order to fully evaluate your idea. We will pass your
idea onto the approprate people and let you know how to proceed
if your idea is approved.
Q- How
do the auctions work?
In our Fundraisers section,
there is a link titled "Auction Rules" which explains the general
rules for all of the auctions we run. However, each auction may
have rules specific to that auction, so be sure to read the rules
for each auction carefully.
Q- How
much do I have to donate in order to receive a tax receipt for my
donation?
Grobanites for Charity will issue a tax receipt for any
donation over $250.
