Answers:
1: If you donate a toy it will be picked up by the Marines typically during the third week of December to be distributed during the winter holidays to children who may not otherwise get a toy this holiday season.
The Marines will first distribute the toys in their Region. Once the needs of their region have been met they will contact other regions to see where there are deficits and then distribute the toys there as well. If every region in the United States has had their needs met then the toys will be distributed to children in hospitals.
If you donate a check or money order your donation will be collected by Grobanites For Charity. Then a check for the total of all the donations will be sent directly to the Toys for Tots Foundation in Quantico, VA. The foundation will then determine the areas of greatest need and that’s where your money will be sent.
2: It is commonly thought that the Toys for Tots Foundation gathers toys only for Christmas. While the toys are gathered during the Christmas season, recipients of the toys are not screened on the basis of race or religion. Toys are distributed based solely on economic need and will be distributed in the time frame recommended by the social services agency that has determined that need.
3: Currently funds are dispersed by the Toys For Tots Foundation according to the greatest need.
4: It is easy to change the money of your country to US dollars. You simply need to go to your local bank. Tell them how much you want your money order to be made out for and they will convert the money into US dollars. All money orders must be made out to GFC or Grobanites For Charity.
If you choose to donate from another country you may want to consider finding out what the exchange rates are before deciding whether to send a toy or a money order. In some cases it may actually cost you less to ship a toy than it would to convert your dollars.
5: The toys are sorted by age appropriate groups for distribution. Then toys are selected to match the individual needs of each child to the best of the abilities of the agencies involved. In order to be as successful with this process as possible they people sorting the toys need to be able to see the toys.
6: No. Back when the Toys for Tots program was started it was possible to donate used toys and the Marines refurbished them. However, with all their other duties they no longer have the time. Marines now only accept brand new, unwrapped, non-violent toys.
7: Guns, tanks, anything that resembles a weapon of any kind. Toys with projectiles. Video games that promote violence of any kind such as games where the characters hit, kick, punch, carry and/or use weapons or any variation of these. If you are donating video games please screen them for language and sexual content as well. Any other games that imply or encourage violence in any way would also be considered inappropriate. If you donate music, please be familiar with the content and screen
for violent and profane language and sexually graphic content.
8: At the end of the Toy drive we will submit the final numbers to Grobanites For Charity. Josh, Lindy and the others involved in the Foundation are keenly interested in what we do. And while there isn’t time to recognize individuals, they are very much aware of our efforts and often express their gratitude.
9: Manufacturer packaging determines how toys are counted. Items that come with multiple pieces in once package are not counted as multiple toys. For instance, a package of toys, such as a package of ten cars is counted as one toy provided they are packaged by the manufacturer together. If you send ten separately packaged cars, each one packaged individually by the manufacturer, they are counted as ten separate toys. This has always been the standard for tallying totals for the toy drive.
10: If you send a donation via check to GFC, along with the completed form, you will receive a tax receipt letter for your records. If you give toys, you have our assurance that they will be well handled and given to the appropriate Marine representatives. We also ask that team members keep a list in case there are any questions.
11: To facilitate the process of handling funds and ensure security, only checks and money orders made out to GFC or Grobanites For Charity may be sent. We cannot accept cash, gift cards or checks made out any other way.
12: Plan your toys and donations to reach us no later than December 10th. Leave plenty of time for shipping. We need to be able to account for everything and be ready for delivery by Dec. 15th. The Marines can also accept off-season checks (not toys) year round if you choose to send them.
13: Sending a check? Go to our Donate page for complete instructions.
Purchases made at Amazon.com will automatically be shipped properly.
If you wish to mail toys, use our contact form and we will provide a shipping address for you.
14: “Noel” parties are going to be popular this year. Tell each guest to bring at least one new, unwrapped toy for admission. With a little advance planning, the Marines can often arrange to have someone there to pick them up. If you need help locating a Marine representative, you can go to their site at www.toysfortots.org or send us a message.
